The Economic challenges we face and why I am standing
Jersey is facing serious challenges. Rising living costs and global uncertainty, alongside long‑standing underinvestment and neglect in critical infrastructure, are placing significant pressure on our community. Things are harder now. Living costs are up, household budgets are stretched, and after years of living standards standing still, its feels like we are going backwards. At the same time, more people need public services, and we can’t keep putting off the upgrades our infrastructure needs.
To meet these challenges, Jersey must move beyond short‑term thinking and adopt practical, long‑term strategies.
Jersey needs representatives in the States Assembly with experience and a clear understanding of how government works—people who are prepared to take difficult decisions and deliver for the public. We need capable politicians with long‑term vision, focused on practical solutions rather than on short‑term or populist fixes.
As a Minister, I know how to get things done. I recognise what “success” looks like and how to avoid the opposite.
I have the experience. I have twice served as a States Member, including as Minister for the Environment. I led the Bridging Island Plan and the Carbon Neutral Roadmap, gained stronger protections on pollution and water quality, improved standards in rented homes, and took big planning decisions—approving our hospital planning application.
I’ve had careers in public‑sector finance in the UK, in the States Treasury, in our Health Service, as Chief Exec of Planning & Environment. I’m a qualified accountant, so I can dig into the numbers, challenge waste, and make sure we’re getting value for money—while protecting the services people rely on. I’ve managed a local law firm and a financial services business, so I understand both sides of our economy.
My style is to always work together cooperatively with Ministers and all Members across the States . A Vote for me is a vote for that approach.
