Why am standing with Reform Jersey

During my two terms as an independent States member, I saw first hand that ministerial government works best with effective political parties. Strong party representation gives voters clearer choices, supports cross‑party cooperation, and enables faster, more effective policy delivery—less talk, more action.

Over the past decade, Reform Jersey has established itself as Jersey’s social democratic party, demonstrating its ability to govern responsibly and effectively. In the last government It led three ministries—Housing, Social Security and Education—delivering tangible improvements for islanders. The party has promoted consensus in government, contributed strongly to scrutiny, and shown leadership on key social issues.

Jersey now faces serious economic challenges, driven by factors such as Brexit and global economic and geopolitical uncertainty. Relying on past success is no longer sufficient. The focus must shift to improving quality of life and wellbeing across all aspects of our community, not just finance. Reform Jersey has already made a significant contribution and has the potential to do much more. I am pleased to have my candidacy supported and be able to offer my strong experience In Environment , Planning and Development and Financial policy to Ministers , States Members , St Brelade and Jersey.

Party Leader Sam Mézec said – “I am absolutely delighted that John has joined Reform Jersey. We always worked well with John when he was last in the States as he has a strong commitment to social and economic justice. In particular, I greatly admired him for trying to bring in protections for Islanders who rent their homes, even in the face of strong opposition from vested interests. He is also responsible for providing the framework for developing new affordable homes, which helped set the agenda that we have tried to build on to alleviate Jersey’s housing crisis. I hope that Islanders will recognise that John joining Reform Jersey ] shows we are a broad Church that is credible force to take the Island forward.
