Policy issues 2026

Since the last election ( 2022) , Jersey has had two Council of Minister’s , the first administration led by Deputy Kristina Moore was divided and l ost the public and States confidence. They achieved very little and progressed things backwards.  The second led by Deputy Lyndon Farnham adopted a consensus building style , worked cooperatively across the States. Forced to comply with the procedural straight jacket of States of Jersey Law and Public Finances Law adopted during the Parker years left them insufficient time to recover the lost two years, but made solid progress. The economic challenges we NOW face are  substantially increased , the new States have to address both the long term internal issues in our £1Billion annual budget and the external issues to repair our service economy.

Key Issues

  • The Civil Service is top heavy with layers of management and bureaucracy.
  • All Departmental Front Line services need to be protected from budget cuts .
  • The viability of Government “centralised functions “, including HR , Procurement to be assessed compared with decentralisation to departments .
  • Need to strip out bureaucracy
  • Management structures need to be subject to a critical “value added ” assessment to delayer and reduce overheads
  • Conduct a Forensic scrutiny of all States spending to to establish effectiveness , efficiency and economy of service spending
  • We need reform of our tax system for greater equity and fairness including taxing the profits of non locally owned businesses
  • We need to modernise State Pensions and implement a secondary pension scheme.
  • We need to establish Urban Improvement Areas to regenerate the residential  streets of town and reclaim the residential streets from traffic.
  • We need to halt “town cramming “ over-development which damages the quality of life for town residents
  • We need to control our population growth to manage the future demand for public services.
  • We need to conserve the quality of life in Jersey and ensure a sustainable long term future.
  • We need to improve inter-island cooperation in all sectors
  • We need to to rebuild our Brexit damaged Service economy, require the UK to entrust Jersey to enter a Neighbourhood agreement with Brittany and Normandy for goods services and restore free movement.
