VIEW MY CV (2014)
After a career in the UK government. I have lived in Jersey for 39 years and brought my family up here. I have been a top level manager in both the public and private sectors and understand the disciplines of the commercial world. However the majority of my working life has been in the delivery of efficient public services and the development and implementation of public sector policy in Jersey and the UK. This is where my heart lies. Long term change and improvements benefiting society will only come from top quality public leadership , executive and political in combination .
I am currently self employed. I served as the island’s Planning Officer for States of Alderney from 2015 to 2017 , producing their Land Use Plan and reforming planning law . I served as elected Deputy for St Brelade until late 2014 being elected as a Deputy in 2011 serving as Chairman of the Environment and TTS Scrutiny panel , I was practice director of a local law firm from 2007 -2011, spent some time as a successful self-employed consultant, and two years from 2005-2007 as an accountant in the finance industry. Before that I worked for the States for 25 years, in the States Treasury, as a Health Service senior manager, and 13 years as Chief Officer of the Planning and Environment department until 2004 when I accepted redundancy in the transition to Ministerial government . At 58 I risked unemployment for the uncertainty of a private sector job . The only Jersey Chief Officer ever to agree to do so, I never lost a day at work , and have kept my unbroken record since i was 16.
I am a team person and have served with many local voluntary groups. Most recently assisting the Literary Festival Trust , as the Chairman of the Jersey Arts Centre, previously Treasurer for three years ; the Shelter Trust; Les Amis Management Committee; the Jersey steering group for the Eradication of Poverty and Treasurer of the Regent Tigers Swimming Club.
